In the reverse osmosis (R.O) membrane, a physical process occurs. The raw water is driven by a pump into a shield containing the semipermeable membrane, after passing through the initial filters and pre-treatment. Finally, exits approximately pure water from one side of the membrane and concentrated water of the impurities on the other side.
Membrane consists of several layers wrapped around a central tube. The membrane acts as a filter which the solvent molecules pass through that, but impure molecules cannot pass through the membrane. When the scales are formed on the surface of the membranes, they reduce the outflow of treated water or the quality of the outflow decreases. As a result, after some time the membrane becomes clogged and needs to be cleaned. Acidic or alkaline solutions are used for periodic cleaning of membranes.

Calibration of Using Membrane Cleaner Solutions:
Membrane filter cleaning in reverse osmosis (R.O) systems is a trial and error. For example, if the water test contains inorganic substances such as iron or manganese, a solution capable to remove metal precipitates should be used, so the use of acidic membrane cleaner, Mitreh CMA0150 is recommended. If the clog contains solids suspended in water, it indicates a biological contamination, and Mitreh CMB0251 or Mitreh CMB0253 alkaline cleaner solution should be used to clean the membrane.
In the case of large-scale reverse osmosis systems, it is best to combine cleaning agents. First, clean the system with alkaline solution and, after rinsing with soft water, immerse the membrane in acidic solution for several hours, then wash with high pressure.
