Thermal Desalination Unit (MED) sedimentation at the 3rd Asaluyeh Refinery (March 1403)

Thermal Desalination Units (TDUs) are one of the advanced and efficient technologies in producing fresh water from salt water sources such as seawater. These systems are capable of converting salt water into high-quality fresh water by utilizing thermal energy. This technology has found wide application, especially in dry and water-scarce regions, and in sensitive industries such as petrochemicals, refineries and power plants that require fresh water of appropriate quality.

Gas refineries in the south of the country also use thermal desalination systems in various capacities to provide utility water required by various process units.

 

The challenge of sedimentation in thermal desalination devices.

Desalination plant number one of the third refinery in Assaluyeh had suffered from severe scaling due to continuous operation and use of seawater. These sediments were caused by minerals in the sea water, which over time reduced the efficiency of the system and the productivity of the equipment.

 

Proposed solution and implementation of sediment removal operations.

After careful examination and laboratory analysis of the collected sediments, the chemical substance Mitreh MDA0102 was proposed as a suitable and efficient sediment remover. This substance, with its lowest corrosion rate and maximum efficiency, was an ideal option to solve this problem.

After a careful inspection of the various effects of the desalination plant, the amount of chemical consumption and the sediment removal method were precisely determined. The sediment removal operation was carried out by the experienced technical team of Abrizan Company and this process was completed in 6 days. During the operation, sampling and analysis of sediment removal solutions were continuously carried out.

 

Results of the sediment removal operation.

The results of the sample analysis showed that a significant portion of the sediments had been removed from the system. The sediment removal operation was completed successfully and a significant improvement in the performance of the desalination plant was observed. This operation not only increased the efficiency of the system, but also prevented future problems.

 

Satisfaction of the refinery's technical managers.

The sediment removal operation was carried out optimally under the supervision of the refinery's technical managers and the sincere cooperation of the operation unit and was approved and satisfied by the refinery's technical managers. This success demonstrates the high expertise and experience of the Abrizan technical team in implementing industrial projects, especially the MED and MSF thermal desalination plants.

 

With this project, not only was the sedimentation problem resolved, but the useful life of the equipment was also increased and maintenance and repair costs were significantly reduced. This project is an example of the importance of using new sediment removal materials and expert teams in the country's large industries.
