Anti-scalant
Antiscalants are among the most widely used materials in the water treatment industry that prevent the formation of sediment on the membranes of industrial desalination devices, especially R.O. or the tubes of thermal desalination devices. These materials have different bases, including phosphates, polyphosphates, acrylates, carboxylates, phosphonic acids, etc. Choosing the right type of antiscalant for an R.O. water treatment device depends on the specifications of the device, the volume of purified water, and the complete physical and chemical characteristics of the water entering the device, especially the type of ions present in the water entering. Choosing the right antiscalant leads to an increase in the lifespan of the membranes, an increase in production efficiency, and an increase in the quality of the produced water. Antiscalants are capable of dispersing and disintegrating the crystal nuclei of a wide range of sediments and precipitateable compounds. The presence of various copolymer and terpolymer compounds in antiscalants has made them highly effective in preventing the formation of deposits on the membrane membrane even at low doses and even capable of removing deposits formed in the membrane.
The water desalination process (water purification) in the MED and MSF water desalination plant is based on a multi-stage distillation desalination system with steam circulation. Each MED water desalination package consists of several cells or stages that are placed side by side in sequence. The principle of operation of MED units is that initially the steam produced by the boiler enters the first stage of the process. Then the brine enters the first stage and is sprayed onto the pipes containing the steam. As a result of heat exchange between the steam and the brine; the brine, which has been partially purified, evaporates and is sent to the next stage. This process can continue in several stages until the water desalination is complete. Due to the high content of soluble and insoluble compounds in seawater and the high temperature shock in desalination packages; sedimentation in these packages is inevitable. As a result, it is necessary to use chemicals with anti-sedimentation function with polymer bases (polycarboxylic acid) to control and prevent sedimentation.
