In oil pipelines, the majority of pressure drop is due to friction between the oil and the inner wall of the pipe. Friction in pipelines leads to a decrease in flow rate and also increases pumping and energy costs. This decrease in flow rate can be significantly reduced by injecting chain polymers or drag reducer agents. By using this chemical, the movement of fluids inside the pipes becomes faster, resulting in lower friction inside the pipe, requiring less force to pump the materials, and saving energy required for pumping. Oil lubricants greatly help lubricate the materials inside the pipe, and by reducing frictional pressure drop, they can increase the operating capacity by more than 90 percent of the mechanical capacity of the pipeline.
